Dennis D. Jorgenson, 64, of rural Sioux City died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at his residence following a lengthy illness with cancer.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Hinton United Methodist Church in Hinton, Iowa, with the Rev. Jason Gutzmer officiating. Burial will be in Melbourne Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Jorgenson was born March 30, 1939, in Sisseton, S.D., the son of Henry and Mable (Popham) Jorgenson. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961.
He married Sandra E. Amick on June 12, 1959, in Lawton, Iowa. He had been a Sioux City resident for most of his adult life. He worked in a credit union for 18 years, primarily with Williams T.V. and Appliances. He then was a self-employed electrician owning Jorgenson Electric for many years. His wife, Sandra, died Dec. 25, 1975, in Sioux City.
He was a member of Hinton United Methodist church, the National Rifle Association and a life time member of the North American Hunting Club. He was an avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by three sons, Dennis M. "Rusty" and his wife, Teresa, of Hurley, S.D., David H., and his wife, Kim, of Humboldt, S.D., and Darren D. of the Azores; a daughter and her husband, Amy L. and Michael Emerick of Sioux City; two brothers, Darwyn Jorgenson and his wife, Barb, of Emery, S.D., and Sherman of Watertown, S.D.; two sisters, Colleen Dunfee of Kissimmee, Fla., and Marjorie and her husband, Fonton Fenhaus, of Rapid City, S.D.; and six grandchildren, April, David, Kelsey, Nathan and Isaiah Jorgenson and Ethan Emerick.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Darrell and Dale; and a sister, Shirley Purdee.
Pallbearers will be Jim Meier, Doug Larson, Steve Griebel, Kevin Calloway, Barry Eberhard and Bob Hazelwood. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, April, David, Kelsey, Nathan and Isaiah Jorgenson and Ethan Emerick.
