LAUREL, Neb. -- Donald George Diediker, 88, of Laurel died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Neb.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Laurel, with the Rev. William Engebretsen officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Martinsburg, Neb., with military rites. Arrangements are under the direction of Schumacher-Hasemann Funeral Home in Laurel.
Donald George Diediker, the son of George and Clara (Dahlman) Diediker, was born July 18, 1916, in Hinton, Iowa. He went to school and worked in the Hinton area until his family moved to Nebraska in 1938. He entered the U.S. Army in October 1941 and served until his honorable discharge in October 1945. During his military service, he was stationed in the Pacific Theater. He returned to the Martinsburg area, where he farmed for 26 years.
He was united in marriage to Vera Buryanek in August 1952. They moved their family near Laurel in 1971, where they made their home until retiring and moved into Laurel in 1980.
He was a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Martinsburg, where he served as an elder and treasurer. He was a present member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Laurel. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, playing cards and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Vera; three sons, Steve and his wife, Pam, of Hinton, Iowa, Dave of Wayne, Neb., and Don and his wife, Erica, of Laurel; a daughter and her husband, Kari and David Boyle of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 12 grandsons; a granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Diediker of Dixon, Neb., and Ella Mae Maynard of Carmel, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Diane; two brothers, Darrel and Duane Diediker; and a sister, Lorna Gries.
Pallbearers will be Aaron, Adam, Andrew, Matthew, Bryan, Jeff and Seth Diediker, Shane Baack and Jacob Boyle.
