Rosemary Deming, 80, of Sioux City died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Rosemary was born March 31, 1923, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of George Stanley and Edith (Vogel) Huxtable. She moved to Sioux City as a young girl. She attended school in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. She continued her education and graduated from Morningside College.
She married Walter John Deming on Jan. 30, 1948, in North Carolina. After their marriage they moved around the country while he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, until returning to Sioux City in 1966. She worked as a librarian at the Sioux City Public Library and on the Bookmobile, retiring in 1984.
Mr. Deming died in 1999.
She was a member of Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a co-founder and first president of the Big Sioux Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and on the board for the Siouxland Aging. She was an active member of the League of Women Voters and other Siouxland organizations. She was a past nominee for the Women of Excellence Award. She was an avid reader and a Cubs fan.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, John and Rita Deming, Rosemary and John McKinley, Larry and Vicki Deming, Robert and Tina Deming and Michael and Susan Deming, all of Sioux City; two sisters, Elizabeth Still of Hemet, Calif., and Lucille Steinmetz of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Walter, she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Deming; two grandchildren, Jared and Jerie Deming; and her parents.
