LE MARS, Iowa -- Michael R. Lubben, 55, of Le Mars died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Wasmer Post 241. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Michael Richard Lubben was born May 16, 1949, in Le Mars, to Kenneth E. and Eileen R. (Chamberlain) Lubben. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He graduated from Central High School in 1967. On May 8, 1969, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country until his honorable discharge on May 14, 1971. He served his country proudly, having completed a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Upon returning to Le Mars, he worked for Stoos Bro's Body Shop for several years. In 1990, he moved to Merrill, Iowa and worked for Taylor Auto in Brunsville, Iowa, doing body work. He later worked in the body shop at Charlie Zook Motors. He operated "The Shop" in Merrill for several years. He had injured his back, which led to the closing of the Merrill shop. The last couple of years, he worked part-time for Van's Sanitation.

When he was not repairing cars, he enjoyed the opportunities to go fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed gardening. A longtime hobby for Mike was restoring his 1950 "Pan-Head" Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed riding and cherished the time riding with his daughter, Rachel. He was a member of the American Legion Wasmer Post 241.

Survivors include his parents, Kenneth and Eileen Lubben of Le Mars; a sister, Patricia Lubben of Le Mars; a daughter, Rachel Grace Lubben of Fruitvale, Colo.; aunts and uncles, Robert and Loretta Lubben of Le Mars, Alice Chamberlain of Le Mars and Lloyd Chamberlain of Olympia, Wash.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; and two aunts, Evelyn Rollins and Pauline Chamberlain.

Pallbearers will be Gary Roepke, Steve Sherlock, Dave Huls, Darwin Herbst, Herman Bremer and Tom Leitru.
