WESTFIELD, Iowa -- Marian L. (Bern) Lewis, 74, of Hawarden, Iowa, formerly of Westfield, passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at Hillcrest Health Care Service in Hawarden.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Westfield Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Steven Jewett officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Liberty Township Cemetery, Calumet, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home-Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa.

Marian L. (Bern) Lewis was born April 13, 1930, in Larrabee, Iowa, the daughter of George and Dorthea (Selk) Bern. She attended school in Larrabee and graduated from Larrabee High School in 1947. She attended business school in Omaha. Following college, she moved to Chicago where she was a restaurant manager.

She married Joe Castenelle on Dec. 23, 1951, in Chicago. He passed away June 15, 1954. She married Creed C. "C.C." Lewis on Feb. 14, 1961. In 1970, the couple moved to Westfield. She worked for W.A. Hummel and later was treasurer for the city of Westfield for 12 years. C.C. passed away April 3, 1972. She had been a resident of Hillcrest in Hawarden since 1994.

She was a member of Westfield Congregational United Church in Christ, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed fishing, playing the piano, singing and playing bingo.

Survivors include a brother and his wife, Kenny and Olga Bern of Cherokee, Iowa; and numerous cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two husbands.

Pallbearers will be Dalton Rehder, Tom Selk, Bill Hummel and Leonard Buryanek.
