LE MARS, Iowa -- Neva L. Lewis, 85, of Le Mars passed away on Friday, June 3, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Bill McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., a rosary service at 5 p.m. and a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

Neva Louise Lewis was born on Sept. 11, 1919, on a farm near Westfield, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Mary (Faust) Hoffman. She attended country school near her home. Following her education, Neva lived with her parents and helped with the housework and the farming.

On May 14, 1938, Neva and Joseph Lewis Sr. were united in marriage at Elk Point, S.D. The couple made their home in Le Mars. They lived in Seney, Iowa, for a brief time and then returned to Le Mars. Neva worked at many of the local Le Mars cafes, including Hammer's, Pantry Cafe, Club Cafe, Truck Haven Cafe and Lally's Eastside Restaurant.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. Neva loved flower gardening and singing and dancing. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and cross-stitch. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Joseph Lewis Jr. and his wife, Shirley of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Gerald Lewis and his wife, Paulette of Le Mars, and Lawrence Lewis and his wife, Pat of Spencer, Iowa; three daughters, Joan Feller and her husband, James of Rapid City, S.D., Geraldine Palsrok and her husband, Carl of Sibley, Iowa, and Mary De Boer and her husband, Lon of Le Mars; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Sr. on Aug. 12, 1989; a daughter, Rosalie Lewis; a granddaughter, Lori Ashlock; and her brothers and sisters, Cleo, Margaret, Winifred "Toots," Rosie, John, Charlie, Delbert, Maynard "Red," Jim, George, Bernard "Dutch" and two infant siblings.
