LE MARS, Iowa -- Kathryn Bollin, 95, of Le Mars died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Jason Larson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., a prayer service at 7 p.m. and an Order of the Eastern Star service to follow, at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Kathryn May Rhoades was born Sept. 16, 1906, in Le Mars, the daughter of Marques Lafayette and Anna Trieweiler (Stahmer) Rhoades. She was baptized on Sept. 10, 1911, in the Methodist faith. Katie was one of seven girls who formed the first Girl Scout Troop in Le Mars in 1921. She graduated from Le Mars High School on May 29, 1925. Following her education, she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator for 35 years.
On Feb. 17, 1946, Katie and Gayland Bollin were united in marriage at First United Methodist Church in Le Mars. The couple were active in the community. They volunteered their time at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars for 30 years and delivered Meals on Wheels as well as their involvement with First United Methodist Church. Katie also enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
Mr. Bollin passed away on Sept. 4, 1990. Katie moved to Brentwood on March 2, 1998.
She will be lovingly remembered by her nephews, Guy Rhoades and his wife, Sandy of Angola, Ind., and Marques Rhoades and his wife, Pauline of Yankton, S.D.; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Cora Lamb, Zilpha O'Grady and Ida Rhoades; and a brother, Everett Rhoades.
