REMSEN, Iowa -- Lyle Bohnenkamp, 80, of Remsen died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mr. Bohnenkamp was born Feb. 21, 1921, in rural Remsen, the son of Frank and Sophie (Scharff) Bohnenkamp. He was raised in the Remsen area and received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen. He was then engaged in farming with his parents near Remsen.

He married Frances Freking on Sept. 15, 1947, in Le Mars, Iowa. They made their home near Remsen, where they continued farming with his parents. In 1949, they moved to their own farm south of Remsen. Frances died July 6, 1983. In 1986, Lyle retired and moved into Le Mars. He had been a resident of Happy Siesta Health Care Center since Aug. 18, 1997.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, his grandchildren and watching the Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Gary and Rhonda and Steve and Linda, all of Remsen, and Bob and Jeanne of Le Mars; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Marian Kellen of Remsen; a brother, Francis of Hawk Springs, Wyo.; and two sisters-in-law, T.A. Bohnenkamp of Remsen, and Bonnie Bohnenkamp of Vinton, Iowa.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and William; a brother-in-law, Ray Kellen; and a sister-in-law, Donna Bohnenkamp.

Pallbearers will be Courtney, Julie, Kristin, Marty and Matt Bohnenkamp, Kevin Feeney and Kara Harpenau. Mass servers will be Eric and Scott Bohnenkamp.
