LE MARS, Iowa -- Marlin Harms, 72, of rural Le Mars died Friday, May 30, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness of St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, Iowa, with military rites conducted by American Legion Olson-Halweg Post 125. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home.

Marlin Gene Harms was born Nov. 16, 1930, in Brookings, S.D., to John and Alma (Witt) Harms. The family moved to Grant Township when Marlin was 2 years old. He attended country school in Grant Township. Marlin served in the U.S. Army for two years, stationed at Fort Sill, Okla. Following his discharge from the Army, he returned to Grant Township to farm until his retirement in 1992.

Marlin married Marlys Jenkins and the couple were the parents of three children, Marlin Jr., Michele and Cortland. On April 14, 1973, Marlin was united in marriage to Pauline Petersen at Elk Point, S.D. He loved the land, and farming was his passion. For several years, Marlin mowed for the city of Brunsville, Iowa, enjoying the hours spent on the mower.

Survivors include his wife, "Polly" of Le Mars; seven children, Candy Lambert and her husband, Cliff of Struble, Iowa, Doug Harms of Brunsville, Jim Jackson and his wife, Susan of Merrill, Bob Jackson and his wife, Barbara of Le Mars, Marlin Harms Jr., Michele Harms and Cortland Harms; two sisters, Glennes Deiterman and her husband, Gerald of Akron, Iowa, and Shirley Brandt of Sioux City; a brother, Douglas Harms and his wife, Rose of Cheyenne, Wyo.; six grandchildren, Brandon Jackson, Mackenzie Jackson, Chelby Lambert, Christopher Jackson, Jennifer Jackson and Erica Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Trometer of Merrill, and Pearl Abraham of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Glenn and two in infancy.

Pallbearers will be Terry Blackmore, Terry Trometer, David Blackmore, Robbie Trometer, Brandon Jackson and Chelby Lambert.
