LE MARS, Iowa -- Etta Beitelspacher, 89, of Le Mars passed away Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Le Mars, with the Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church.

Etta Engel Margaret Beitelspacher was born on Sept. 4, 1914, on the family farm in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa to Henry and Johanna (Dircks) Kleihauer. Etta was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Le Mars. She attended country school in Grant Township and high school in Le Mars. Following her education, Etta assisted her family on the farm as well as area neighbors.

On April 14, 1936, Etta and Henry Beitelspacher were united in marriage at her parents' home in Plymouth County. They made their home on a farm in Plymouth County. Henry passed away suddenly on April 12, 1960. Etta remained on the farm and raised her family until 1976, when she moved to Le Mars.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, participated in Ladies Aid and worked with the flower committee. Her hobbies included reading, dancing, playing cards, baking, flower gardening, needlework, crocheting and latch hook. More important than these, Etta's main love in life was to care and provide for her family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Arley Beitelspacher and his wife, Sharon, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Betty Swanson and her husband, Ken, Sharon Popken and her husband, Duane, Leonard Beitelspacher and his wife, Collette, Larry Beitelspacher and his wife, Pat, Henry Beitelspacher and his wife, Becky, all of Le Mars and Alvin Beitelspacher and his wife, Clorinda of Hartford, S.D.; a son-in-law, Marvin Urban of Le Mars; 20 grandchildren, Steven, Chad, Marshall, Cole, Kyle, Troy, Ryan, Alison, Hannah, Laura, Lisa and Jackie Beitelspacher, Jennifer Orban, Lori Myers, Chris, Jeff, Brandon and Michelle Popken, Angela Martin and Roland Swanson; 11 great-grandchildren, Michaela Martin, Jordan Spencer, Jared Swets, Jaina, Justus, Corbin and Alexis Popken, Taylor and Derek Myers and Alex and Samantha Orban; two brothers, Ottie Kleihauer and his wife, Jeannine, of Brunsville, Iowa and Albert Kleihauer and his wife, Milly, of Cherokee, Iowa; three sisters, Matie Ruble and Emma Harms,

both of Le Mars, and Lillian Moller and her husband, John, of Craig, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law, Jean Kleihauer and Esther Beitelspacher, both of Le Mars.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Urban, on Dec. 23, 1998; an infant brother, John; brothers, Jack and Henry; and sisters, Anna and Mary.
