WESTFIELD, Iowa -- Helen M. Banks, 49, of Westfield died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. today, with the Rev. Steve Jewett of Westfield United Congregational Church officiating, at the funeral home.

Helen Banks was born Oct. 2, 1954, in Sioux City, the daughter of Joe and Janet (Hinken) Birkley. She attended school at Westfield Public School.

She married Carey A. Banks on Nov. 3, 1972, in Akron, Iowa, and had lived in rural Westfield.

She was a member of Westfield United Congregational Church. She had taught Sunday School for several years. She enjoyed her grandchildren and had a talent in art work.

She is survived by her husband, Carey Banks; a daughter and her husband, Tracy and Jerod Welch; a son, Quentin Banks; two grandchildren, Ali Rose and Tyler Welch; her mother, Janet Birkley of South Sioux City; three sisters, Rhonda Gensler, Inger Birkley and Penny Birkley; eight brothers, John Birkley, David Miner, Jerry Nelson, Dale Jorgensen, Robert Malcom, Raymond Nelson, Vance Birkley and Zane Birkley; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Birkley; a daughter, Brenda Lee Banks; and her grandparents.
