AKRON, Iowa -- Lillian Aurora Olivia Adams, 88, of Akron died Monday, March 1, 2004, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Mrs. Adams was born Feb. 7, 1916, in rural Union County, S.D., the daughter of Carl August and Gerda (Petterson) Swanson. She graduated from Westfield (Iowa) High School as salutatorian of her class.

She married Robert Vinton Adams on Sept. 21, 1935, in Elk Point, S.D. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1969.

The couple farmed in South Dakota for six years, then moved to Akron in 1943, to run a Standard Oil Station. After World War II, they owned and operated an International Harvester dealership for 23 years, where she worked as their bookkeeper. After selling the dealership, she worked for the First National Bank of Akron, then Higman Sand and Gravel.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Home Culture Club. She was an original and 50 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She taught Sunday School and served as church treasurer for First Baptist Church of Akron for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, crocheting and playing bridge.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Sylvia and James Hulce of Goodyear, Ariz.; a son, Dick Adams of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Esther Swanson; six grandchildren, Kim Feathers, Jessica Cronin, Rebecca Johnson, Steven Adams, Troy Hulce and Nathan Hulce; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Roland and Ralph Swanson; and a sister, Harriet Jensen.

Pallbearers will be Troy Hulce, Nathan Hulce, Steven Adams, Don Cronin, Mark Johnson and Tim Feathers.
