KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Darlene Dorothy Adams, 81, of Keota, Iowa, formerly of Kingsley, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at English Valley Care Center in North English, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Lutheran Church in Sigourney, Iowa, with the Rev. Richard Meyer officiating. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Powell Funeral Home in Keota.

Darlene Dorothy Adams was born Dec. 7, 1922, near Kingsley, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Munch) Wetrosky. She attended country school and graduated from Leeds High School in Sioux City. She worked for several years for the FBI in Washington D.C.

She married DeWayne Richard Adams on Sept. 3, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. They farmed in Goldfield, Iowa, and Stewartville and Mabel, Minn. In 1964, they moved to Keota, where she lived for 38 years. She was employed through the years at Chase's Grocery, the Farmers Savings Bank, the Keota Public Library and most recently by the Keota Senior Center.

She enjoyed her social clubs and the Lutheran Ladies Aid. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Sigourney.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Dana and Kevin McCarthy of Hiawatha, Iowa, and Debbie and Doug Hammes of Ladora, Iowa; four grandsons, Brent, Marc and Aaron Hammes and Keane McCarthy; and two sisters, Luella Johns and Loretta Porch.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, DeWayne in September 1990; a son, Dean; and nine brothers and sisters.

A memorial fund has been established.
