Dr. Robert N. Tindall

LE MARS, Iowa -- Dr. Robert N. Tindall, 88, formerly of the Le Mars area passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, Fla.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Jon Meredith officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Adaville, Iowa, with military rites conducted by American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 4 to 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Robert Nelson Tindall was born in Plymouth County, Iowa, on July 28, 1914, to John D. and Amy (Brown) Tindall. His extensive education began with his graduation from Le Mars High School in 1931, pre-med at Western Union (Westmar) College in Le Mars from 1932 to 1934, medical school at the University of Iowa from 1934 to 1938, internship at St. Louis City Hospital from 1938 to 1939, and Missouri Pacific Hospital in St. Louis from 1939 to 1940. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1940 to 1946, and received specialty training at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis from 1946 to 1949.

Dr. Tindall practiced his specialty of otolaryngology in St. Louis from 1950 to 1978. He first served as assistant professor of otolaryngology and later as associate professor of otolaryngology at St. Louis University Medical School for 28 years. He also served as president of the staff of Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis from 1967 to 1968, and as president of the St. Louis Ear, Nose and Throat Club. Afterward, he spent the next 10 years as ear, nose and throat doctor at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis. He retired in 1978, and later moved to Punta Gorda, Fla.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Port Charlotte, Burnt Store County Club in Punta Gorda, BPOE 2606 in Punta Gorda and the American Legion Post 110 in Port Charlotte.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia E. (Brown) Tindall; his stepmother, E. Ferne Tindall of Le Mars; two sisters, Mary (Lin) White of Santa Clara, Calif., and Mildred Hunter of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, Lois Tindall of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Florence Johnson; three brothers, Richard Tindall, Clark Tindall and Stanley Tindall; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Tindall and Cleo Tindall; and his wives, Delores (Scott) Tindall and Carolyn (Naumann) Tindall.
