Verjean Kleinhesselink, 65, of Le Mars, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at her home in Le Mars.

Verjean M. Pecks was born Jan. 9, 1941, in Le Mars the daughter of Herman and Edna (Luschen) Pecks. Verjean was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Craig. She attended country school at Preston #1 and continued her school in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Central High School as a salutatorian with the class of 1959.

Verjean was united in marriage to Walter Kleinhesselink on Aug. 31, 1963, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She worked for Plymouth County Abstract Co. in Le Mars for many years and later worked as a legal secretary for Bauerly, Trotzig and Bauerly Law Office for several years until her retirement.

Verjean was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, computer games, reading mystery books, and flower gardening. She had bowled in several leagues for many years. She also enjoyed fishing with her family at Round Lake, Minn., and going golfing.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years Walter of Le Mars; two daughters, Jodi and Alvaro Gutierrez of Le Mars and daughter Tara and her husband, Jeff Burdette of Le Mars and Jill Foster and her daughters Abby and Ciara Foster; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Max Utesch of Le Mars; in-laws, Lois and Keith Mitchell of Hawarden, George and Donna Kleinhesselink of Orange City, Betty and Clarence Jasper of Orange City, Bob and Nancy Kleinhesselink of Orange City; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Edna (Luschen) Pecks; and two nephews.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Interment was in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitations with the family present was after 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 4 p.m. prayer service Sunday afternoon. Visitation continued Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Pallbearers were Max Utesch IV, Brett Utesch, Brook Utesch, Randy Draayer, Jim Kleinhesselink, Jeff Kleinhesselink, and Jason Kleinhesselink.

A memorial has been established for Hospice of Siouxland.
