LeMars Sentinel, Monday, December 20, 2004Doris M. Keehn, 75, of Seney, died Wednesday, Dec, 15, 2004, at her home in Seney.
Doris Mae Ouellette was born Jan. 9, 1929, the daughter of Earl and Emma (Hebert) Ouellette. She received her education at Burbank, S.D. The family later moved to Sioux City. As a young woman, Doris worked for Sue Bee Honey in Sioux City. She was united in marriage to Robert B. Lake Jr. on Feb. 19, 1947, at Sioux City. Doris and Robert had lived at Lakewood and La Palma, Calif., for several years. Robert died on May 29, 1976.
Later in 1976, Doris returned to Le Mars and began working at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars as a nursing assistant. She later transferred to the housekeeping area and continued working until her retirement in 1992.
Doris was united in marriage to Charles Keehn on July 9, 1983, in Hawarden. In 1987, Doris and Charles moved to Seney, where they have made their home and operated CK Welding.
While living back in Iowa, Doris cared for her mother-in-law, Mary Lake, until her death Jan. 20, 2002.
Doris was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Throughout the years, her faith had always been very important to her. Doris was a very accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed needle work, collecting ceramics and playing bingo.
Doris and Charlie enjoyed going on cruises where they had visited the Caribbean and Mexico.
Survivors include her husband Charles E. Keehn of Seney; five daughters, Mary and her husband, Don Hull of Searcy, Ark., Patricia and her husband, Ralph Criddle, of Reno, Nev., Denise Lake of Phoenix, Ariz., Donna and Gary Wichers of Rock Valley, Rhonda and Eric Sutton of Corona, Calif.; five stepchildren, Karla VonHagel of Remsen, Robert D. and Pauline Keehn of Sioux Center, Cynthia Arms of Laurens, Charles and Kelly Keehn of Livonia, Mich., and Faith Villalpando of Hull; a brother, Robert and his wife, Vivian Ouellette of Sioux City; five sisters, Darlene and Don Dickenson of Hendersen, Nev., Dorothy and Paul Rush of Torrance, Calif., Joyce Schmidt of Tea, S.D., Karlyn and Duane Seney of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Karen and Virgil Hewitt of Hartford, S.D.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Robert B. Lake Jr.; a brother, Donald Ouellette; a sister, Betty Schonrock; and a great-grandson, Mickey Harding.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, rural Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Friday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a 4 p.m. parish rosary and a 7 p.m. Scriptural wake service. The family will be present at the funeral home to greet friends and relatives after 5:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.
Pallbearers will be Duane Seney, Virgil Hewitt, Gary Wichers, Robert D. Keehn, Robert L. Keehn, and Daryl Dailey.
