Floyd M. Miller, 83, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at Good Samaritan Village, Brentwood Center in Le Mars.

Floyd Marvin Miller was born Oct. 8, 1921, in Fredonia Township, Plymouth County, the son of Carl and Laurentina "Tina" (Kloster) Miller. When Floyd was four, his father died so the family moved in with his grandfather C.P. Kloster. Floyd was educated in Fredonia Township and later received a high school equivalency certificate through the Iowa Department of Education.

Floyd farmed with his grandfather until he was drafted into the United States Marine Corps in 1944. He trained in scout sniper school prior to going overseas. Floyd served in the Pacific Theater on Saipan and Okinawa. Shortly after the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Floyd was sent in for demolition work. He served until his honorable discharge in July 1946.

Floyd was married to Virginia Petersen in 1953. The couple farmed in Fredonia Township for 10 years prior to their move to Nebraska. He worked in Lincoln and then joined the U.S. Postal Service. Virginia died in 1984. Floyd worked at the main post office in Omaha and later at the Eppley Airfield Post Office until his retirement on Jan. 1, 1985.

He was united in marriage to Norma Mohning on Feb. 10, 1985, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. They made their home in Carter Lake, for five years before returning to Le Mars.

Floyd was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He was also a member of Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion, Danish Brotherhood, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Norma of Le Mars; a sister, Doris (Bouma) Drost of Orange City; a sister-in-law, Joyce Miller of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Virginia; two brothers, Vernon who died during World War II and Wilbur "Bill" Miller; and a nephew, Kenneth Bouma of Orange City.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion will provide military honors. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the Mauer -- Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
