Katherine "Katie" Boulton, 94, of Hinton, died Sunday, April 18, 2004, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Katherine Margaret Boulton was born Oct. 12, 1909, in West Le Mars, the daughter of Rick and Tina (Martfield) Weber. She attended country school and continued caring for her family at home until her marriage to Peter J. VanderKooi on Dec. 21, 1932. They made their home in the Hinton area. Katie worked as an egg candler at Klass Produce in Sioux City. She would later candle eggs at the Le Mars Hatchery.

Katie married William David Boulton on Dec. 19, 1951. She and William made their home in Hinton. She retired from the hatchery in 1965. William died on Oct. 28, 1983. Katie continued living in Hinton until moving to Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars on July 14, 2003.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill and the American Legion Auxiliary in Hinton.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Fred VanderKooi of Merrill, Dale VanderKooi of rural Merrill, Duane VanderKooi and his wife, Patsy, of Watkinsville, Ga., and Peter VanderKooi and his wife, Linda, of Bristol, Va.; a daughter, Judy Lenig and her husband, Harold, of Rancho Dominguez, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Rieken of Seney; a brother William "Billy" Weber and his wife, Doris, of Foley, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Peter J. VanderKooi and William David Boulton; a granddaughter, Karen Sherlock; a grandson, William Hammons; brothers Henry and Alvin Weber; sisters Bernice McKay and Dora Wenzel.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. Dr. Klaus Raab of St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 4 to 8 p.m. and there will be a prayer service at 5 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Thursday and continue until service time.

Pallbearers will be David VanderKooi, Rich VanderKooi, Randy VanderKooi, Jeff Lenig, Duane VanderKooi Jr. and Russell Rosenbaum. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Weber, Tim VanderKooi, Chuck Trammell and Chad Mason.
