Margaret Heyl, 94, of Le Mars, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Margaret Ellen Heyl was born March 3, 1910, near Westfield, the daughter of Delbert and Mary (Faust) Hoffman. She attended country school near her home. Following her education, Margaret helped area families with housework and childcare.

On July 6, 1927, Margaret and Ralph A. Heyl were united in marriage in Plymouth County, Iowa. Margaret and Ralph made their first home on the Heyl family farm near Adaville. They later moved to a farm near Elk Point, S.D. The family farmed near Elk Point for 10 years. They relocated to a farm near Orange City. During these years, Margaret began working outside of the home as a cook at the Club Café in Le Mars. She would later work for the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars for 35 years in the housekeeping department. In 1960 Margaret and Ralph moved to Le Mars for their retirement years. Ralph died July 28, 1987, following an extended illness.

Margaret was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Le Mars. She loved crocheting and baking.

Survivors include one son, Milton Heyl and his wife, Alvina of Sheldon; four daughters, Donna Boetger of Akron, Eleanor Ruble and her husband, Harlan, of Cherokee, Beverly Koopman and her husband, Ray, of Falls City, Neb., and Dorothy Daily of Brunswick, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Neva Lewis of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years Ralph; two sisters; six brothers; and two sons-in-law Darrell Boetger and Tom Daily.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial followed at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation was from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family was present from 2 to 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 4 p.m. There was also one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.

Honorary pallbearers were Margaret's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Greg Heyl, Doug Boetger, Rory Ruble, Bruce Ruble and Jerry Koopman.
