Many friends in Hinton and vicinity mourn the passing of Philip Garvey, 81 years of age, who died in his home at Leeds last Saturday, following a brief illness. Mr. Garvey was a pioneer settler in this community, having settled on a farm in Perry Township in 1861, where he resided until 25 years ago when he moved to Hinton. About 15 years ago, he located in Leeds.
The deceased was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1855 and came to the United States in 1861. He was among the first settlers in Western Plymouth County.
Surviving him are two sons, Edward and Fred, of Sioux City; a daughter, Mrs. M. J. Barrett, also of Sioux City; a brother, Peter Garvey of Harrington, Nebraska, and a sister, Mrs. Joe Graham of Sioux City.
The funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Michael's Church in Leeds, with Reverend L. M. Klein officiating, and internment was made in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City.
