Verna Fagan Herman

MERRILL, Iowa – Verna Fagan Herman, 84, of Merrill, died Wednesday at a LeMars hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Merrill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Davis and the Rev. Hatty Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Plymouth Presbyterian Cemetery in rural Akron. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. today with the family present from 7-8:30 p.m. and an Easter Star service at 7:30 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home at LeMars.

Mrs. Herman, the former Verna Gabel, was born Dec. 16, 1902, Preston Township, Plymouth County. She attended Morningside Normal School and taught country school. She married Alan Fagan on April 25, 1925. He died in 1953. She married Lester Herman on March 6, 1964.

She was a member of the Merrill United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the United Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Abu-Bekr Shrine Auxiliary, the Daughters of the Nile, and the Merrill Civic Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Albert (Leona) Thorpe of LeMars, and Mrs. Lila Pelelo of Merrill; a son, L. V. “Al” Fagan of Sioux City; a sister, Mrs. Vera Atkinson of Merrill; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
