Thursday, April 27, 2006Marie L. Mura, 87, of John Knox Village and formerly of Kansas City, Mo., and Le Mars, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at Wilshire at Lakewood in Lee's Summit, Mo.
Mrs. Mura graduated from St. Teresa's Academy and attended Mount St. Mary's College in California. She graduated from New Rochelle College in New York and also obtained her degree in elementary eduction from Avila College.
She taught in St. Peter's Catholic School prior to teaching at Gehlen Elementary School in Le Mars.
Mrs. Mura was a member of Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church.
The family thanks those who not only cared, but believed in Marie, especially during her last seven years. She was often called a "trooper," who worked her way back from many health obstacles, time after time, even when the odds were against her. Her perseverance and determination were an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Larry and Linda of Western Springs, Ill., Tom and Pat of Grandview, Mo., and Jim and Lori of Middletown, Iowa, and a daughter, Janie Wall of Lee's Summit, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Helen Leach, and a brother-in-law and his wife, John and Barbara Mura.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Edward G. Mura, Jr.; her mother, father, two brothers and one sister.
A 5 p.m. memorial Mass to celebrate her life was held Monday, April 10, at Presentation Church in Lee's Summit. A time of visitation preceded the mass. It was Mrs. Mura's wish to bequeath her body to the University of Kansas Medical Center for research and teaching.
