Thursday, November 17, 2005Viola B. Kroeger, age 85, of Remsen, died Wednesday Nov. 16, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Viola was born May 2, 1920 to Alice (Furst) and Louis Pingel at their farm home near Paullina. She was baptized May 28, 1920, by Pastor A.H. Semmanns at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. She attended rural school in Marcus Township in Cherokee County for seven years, attended Zion Parochial School for 8th grade, and was confirmed May 28, 1933, at Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor John Hartmeister. She attended Marcus High School and graduated in 1937 and then attended Western Union College in Le Mars and the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Viola taught rural school in Cherokee County, and then at Gray, Scranton, Onawa and Marcus.
Viola and Elmer Kroeger were married on Feb. 1, 1947, at Peace Lutheran Church at Marcus by the Rev. R.W. Meyer. They lived their married life on the family farm south of Remsen.
Viola was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen and enjoyed serving various offices and activities at her church. She had served for nine years on the Plymouth County Board of Education. She was a charter member of Lamplighters, was a member of the Care Review at Happy Siesta Nursing Home from 1984 to 2002, and also led Bible studies there from 1989 to 2002.
Her husband Elmer Kroeger died March 15, 1992. She moved into Remsen in December 1996.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Dennis and Sandra Kroeger of Remsen, and Dale and Deb Kroeger of Merrill; and five grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Kurtis Kroeger and Kory Kroeger, both of Remsen, Nick Kroeger of Merrill, Tiffany Brennan and her husband, Leo and their children Hannah and Michael of Le Mars, and Courtney Stream and her daughter, Emma of Le Mars.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Elmer Kroeger.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen with burial following at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars.
Visitation at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen will be after 3 p.m. today (Friday) with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday. The Feuerstein Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
