Obituary
Mrs. John Harker, 89, Countryside Retirement Home, 6120 Morningside Ave., died Tuesday (Jan. 22, 1980) at the home after a brief illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside. The Rev. Charles Q. Wallace, of Grace United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Harker, the former Inez Clark, was born March 4, 1890, at Smithland, Iowa. She was graduated from Moville High School and attended normal school for three years. She taught physical education at Merrill, Iowa, for a number of years and was deputy county superintendent for nine years in Woodbury County.
She married John Harker in September of 1922, at Merrill. He died Sept. 28, 1962.
She was active in politics, Red Cross and USO. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary of Merrill and a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary (Monahan Post) of Sioux City.
Survivors included two stepdaughters, Mrs. Wayne (Harriett) Penning of Fontana, Calif., and Mrs. Kenneth (Lovice) Crosby of Clinton, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Conoway of Moville, Iowa; three step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; two nephews and one niece.
