Edna Richey of Pioneer Family Dead at Age 96

Edna Richey, 96, who lived in LeMars for three-quarters century, died Oct. 24, 1980, at Plymouth Manor, LeMars, after a brief illness. She had lived at the Manor for two years.

Memorial services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Presbyterian United Church of Christ with Rev. Ralph Nelson officiating. Mauer funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa school of medicine.

Veva Edna Richey was born March 24, 1884, in LeMars to Dr. Milton W. Richey and Electa Reeves Richey, pioneer LeMars residents.

She taught school in Honolulu, Hawaii, for 25 years and lived the rest of her life in LeMars.

Miss Richey was a lifelong and the eldest member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ. She was a PEO member and belonged to several bridge clubs.

Survivors are two sister, Mrs. Myrna O. Brodie, LeMars, and Mrs. Alice M. Lang, Vermillion, S.D.; there are seven surviving nieces and nephews. The nonagenarian was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
