Vera Mae Cummings, 80, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center, formerly of Palo, died Wednesday morning, May 10, 1995, in the care center from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Service: 2 p.m. Friday, Turner Chapel West, where friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Donald Williams will officiate, with a Scripture reading by the Rev. Gerald Craig.
Survivors include three sons, Alvin of Walker, Arlen and wife Alice, and Duane, and a daughter, Marlene Boots and husband Russell, all of Palo; a sister, Carolyn Strong of Biloxi, Miss.; and a brother, George Reeves of LeMars. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Aaron and Amanda Cummings and Ryan, Brent and Devin Boots.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 9, 1976; her parents; a sister; and a brother.
Vera was born the youngest daughter of William and Sarah Reeves on June 14, 1914, in LeMars. She graduated from high school and Westmar College in LeMars and taught school for 16 years in several northwest Iowa counties. On June 11, 1949, she married Glen Cummings in LeMars. They farmed together many years in Plymouth and Linn counties.
She was a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene, Cedar Rapids. She loved to sing the hymns of the church.
