Funeral for Christine McCormick, 92, LeMars, who served before her retirement as longtime Plymouth County School Superintendent, will be a 1 p.m. Saturday at LeMars Calvary United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating.

Graveside rites will be a 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City, under direction of the Mauer Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will be present from 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. McCormick died Oct. 16, 1986, at Plymouth Manor Care Center after a brief illness. A memorial fund has been established in her name at Calvary United Methodist Church.

The former Christine Petersen, she was born Aug. 27, 1894, in Perry Township, Plymouth County to Jeppe and Mathilda Madsen Petersen. She attended Perry Township schools and taught in Perry Township, and was a life long Plymouth County resident and teacher.

She attended Morningside Academy Normal School, and received her bachelor’s degree in 1947 from the State University of Iowa and a master’s degree in 1956 from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion.

She served as Plymouth County Superintendent of Schools for 49 years, from 1924 to 1973. At that time that office was eliminated from the school system.

Her marriage to Charles McCormick, took place Aug. 3, 1958, at Plattsmouth, Neb. He died in 1976.

Mrs. McCormick was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer on the board of trustees for 14 years.

She was a 50-year member and past matron of LeMars Chapter 70, Order of Eastern Star, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, National Education Association, and County Superintendent Education Association.

She was a charter member of LeMars Business and Professional Women’s Club.

She is survived by a brother, Hans Petersen, rural Sioux City, Plymouth County, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. McCormick was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother and five sisters.
