Charles Russell

Charles Russell, 84, a LeMars native and retired farmer, died Thursday (April 27, 1978) at a Sioux City nursing home.

He was born Feb. 11, 1894, in LeMars to James and Ann Tiernan Russell. He farmed in Johnson township until 1959 and moved to LeMars 2 ½ years ago. He had resided at the Abbey before moving to Sioux City.

His marriage to Leona Braun took place Feb. 10, 1920, at Ellendale near Merrill. She preceded him in death in 1970.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic church in LeMars with Rev. Francis Staber officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in LeMars under direction of the Luedtke funeral home.

A prayer service and parish rosary will be at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Survivors are two sons, Eugene of Sioux City, and Robert of rural LeMars; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and a brother, Mike, of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and John and a granddaughter, Kim Russell, and two sisters, Minnie Russell and Maggie Miller.
