IOWA RESIDENT HALF A CENTURY
MRS. ALICE JACKSON WAS ONE OF PIONEER SETTLERS IN PLYMOUTH COUNTY

Mrs. Alice Jackson, a well known resident of Plymouth county, died at the home of her son-in-law, Lester Dorr, 13 Fifth Avenue SW., Friday morning at 3:30, following a brief illness caused from heart trouble. She had been failing of late, owing to increasing age.

Mrs. Jackson was born near Syracuse, N. Y., December 16, 1858, and was 67 years and 6 months old at the time of her death. Her maiden name was Alice Britton. When she was a girl she came with her parents to O'Brien county, Iowa, fifty-one years ago. She was united in marriage with William Jackson in 1876 (error--1877) and shortly afterwards they came to Plymouth county and farmed for many years near Seney. Mr. Jackson died four years ago. To their union were born nine children, three boys and six girls. Two children died in infancy, and one daughter, Della, died in 1919 (error--December 14, 1918). Six children survive her. They are Clarence, Jackson, of Kenneth, Minn., Mrs. Lulu Pinney, Mrs. Lester Dorr and Bert Jackson, of LeMars and William and Josephine, of Leeds. She also leaves two brothers, Orris Britton, of Tyndall, S. D., and H. L. Britton, of Spencer, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. William Randolph, of Garretson, S. D.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the First Methodist church, Rev. C. H. Seward officiating.

Mrs. Jackson was a devoted wife and mother and was well known in the community where she came as a young woman and with her husband withstood the trials and difficulties which beset the early settlers and lived to see the barren prairie become one of the garden spots in the west, doing her share for good in the world.
