Martha Gamerdinger

Martha Gamerdinger, 83, Remsen native and longtime resident, died Friday (July 29, 1988) at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars after an extended illness. She had been hospitalized one day and had lived the last eight years at LeMars Plymouth Manor and prior to that, four years at Happy Siesta, Remsen.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Remsen St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery under direction of the Fisch Funeral Home at Remsen. Parish rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

She was born Feb. 21, 1905, at Remsen to John P. and Elizabeth Knewel Arens. She lived at Remsen before moving to Long Beach, Calif., in 1946. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School and Western Union College and was a teacher and certified public accountant.

She married Jacob Gamerdinger July 15, 1936, at Elk Point. He died in 1972. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors are a sister, Mildred Schorg of LeMars and nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.
