Final rites were held Tuesday at 2 o’clock in Gethsemane Lutheran church, Oyens, for Mrs. Thorwald Kloster, 79, who passed away in her home there Saturday, January 20, after a long period illness. Services were conductd by Rev. John Cristenen, pastor of Nazareth Lutheran church in Marcus and of Gethsemane church at Oyens.

Mrs. Kloster had been in failing health for three years but was able to be about and do light housework until near Christmas time (1950) when her condition suddenly took a turn for worse. The end came at 12:30 o’clock Saturday.

Born April 27, 1871, in the village of Skrydstrup, Slesvig, Denmark, she was baptized there as Anna Sophia Nielsen, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Nis N. Nielsen who brought their family to this country in the spring of 1883. They settled in Fredonia township and Anna Sophia was confirmed in the Lutheran faith three years later, in Le Mars.

Her marriage to Thorwald Kloster took place February 20, 1890 in the home of their close friends, Mr. And Mrs. Ralph Swanson, then living on what now is highway 5 and a short distance west of the Oyens corner. The farmstead has since been removed.

Mr. and Mrs. Kloster settled on the old James Tiernay, Sr., farm immediately east of Oyens, the buildings then situated near the old sandpit about a half-mile from town. They lived there for six years, during which they accumulated through faithful and cooperative labor, sufficient to buy their own quarater-section three miles north and a mile and a half east of Oyens, on which they lived until their retirement to Oyens in 1940.

The venerable couple, with the company of their family, happily observed their 60th wedding anniversary February 20, 1950. Open house was held, with hundreds calling to pay their respects to the deserving pair.

On moving into Oyens the Klosters bought the old country school building a half mile from their farm home, moved it to town and remodeled it as a dwelling for themselves. It is still Mr. Kloster’s home. The old school was attended by 10 of their 11 children, one of them having passed away before school age.

Mrs. Kloster was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran congregation since coming to the Oyens community and a charter member of its Ladies Aid. She was a most devout christian, a true and devoted wife and mother and a woman of all-around christian traits. Her lovable nature endeared her to hundreds of friends who join the bereaved family in sincere condolences.

Mr. and Mrs. Kloster were the parents of 11 children. An infant son, a daughter, Mrs. Bonde Nielsen and her parents, preceded her in death. Those living, who share the grief of their excellent father, are: Jens Kloster, Oyens; Mrs. Axel (Herlig) Petersen, Oak Forest, Ill.; Mrs. Hans (Christine) Miller, Remsen; Mrs. Niels (Elise) Petersen and Mrs. Ole (Lottie) Anderson, Le Mars; Mrs. Frank (Annie) Kunath, Oyens; Nis N. Kloster, Le Mars; Mrs. Harry (Edith) Wallinga, Sheldon and Niels Kloster, Oyens.

There is one sister, Mrs. J.P. Larson of Remsen, who is the lone survivor of the original Nielsen famly; 34 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

The body was at the Moeller funeral home in Remsen until Monday morning when it was removed to the Kloster home in Oyens. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Gethsemane Lutheran church there, the Moellers directing. Burial was in the Remsen cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Thorwald Kloster, 79, will be held Tuesday, at 1:30 p.m. from the home in Oyens and at the Gethsemane Lutheran church there at 2 p.m. The Rev. John Christensen will conduct the rites and burial will be in the Remsen cemetery under the direction of the Moeller funeral home.

Mrs. Kloster died Saturday, shortly after noon following a long illness. She was born in Skrydstrup, Slesvig, Denmark on April 27, 1871, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nis N. Nielsen.

Anna Sophia Nielsen came to his country with her parents in May 1883. They settled in Fredonia township, where she lived ever afterward.

Her confirmation in Lutheran faith took place in Le Mars in 1886. she married Thorwald Kloster Feb. 20, 1890, who survives her, as do nine of their children.

Mrs. Kloster was a life-long member of the Gethsemane Lutheran church in Oyens. and a charter member of its ladies aid. She was a devout Christian and will be missed by her friends and acquaintances.

Her surviving children include Jens of Oyens, Mrs. Axel Petersen of Oak Forrest, Ill.; Mrs. Hans Miller, Remsen, Mrs. Niels Ptersen and Mrs. Ole Andersen of Le Mars; Mrs. Frank Kunath, Oyens; Nis N. of Le Mars; Mrs. Harry Wallinga, sheldon ; and Niels, Oyens. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. J.P. Larson; 34 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Lund from Oklahoma, Mr. and Mrs. Jurgen Raven and Mrs. Andrew Raven from Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Axel Petersen and Woodrow from Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Willard Smith of Fort Dodge. Pallbearers were Floyd and Wilbur Miller and Woodrow and Alvin Peterson, Norman Kloster and Elmer Nielsen, all grandchildren.
