Jobless Man Kills Himself
San Leandro – An unemployed cement finisher was found dead in his mother’s house at 1735 F. 14th St. today after committing suicide by slashing his throat and wrists with a razor blade and stabbing himself six times in the chest with a pair of scissors.
A mysterious male found near the body of Gene R. Buckingham, 35, said, “I don’t know what this is all about but I killed or touched not one person I swear to this.”
Farther down the sheet of paper he had scrawled, “talk … get me out of here.”
Commenting on contents of the note, police said Buckingham was not under investigation for any crime as far as they knew. His fingerprints are being checked through state crime lab files in Sacramento, police added.
Buckingham was last seen about 5 p.m. yesterday by his mother, who brought him a steak for dinner. Buckingham lived with his mother and sister at the mother’s home, 1735 E. 11th St.
Relatives said Buckingham had attempt suicide 10 years ago in Sunnyvale.
