Renken-Ahrendt families celebrate 4 golden events

The families the Rev. Fred J. Ahrendts of Spokane, Wash, and two LeMars couples, the Henry Renkens and the Carl Renkens have celebrated four golden (50th year) events during the last eight months. Each of the three couples have been married 50 years and one family, the Rev. Fred Ahrendts also celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the Lutheran ministry.

It isn't too often that a couple can celebrate two golden events at the same time. This is what happened for the Rev. Fred J. Ahrendt and his wife Margaretha who reside in Spokane, Wash. They are former LeMars Mars area residents. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the Lutheran ministry on June 29,1975 at Emmanuel Lutheran church, Spokane. Rev. Ahrendt who retired from active ministry in 1969 has never-the-less been

When he was just 14 years old. with the encouragement of his pastor and school teacher of Christ Lutheran church near LeMars Mars, in which his family was very active, pastor Ahrendt enrolled in the Lutheran academy and college at St. Paul Minn, in the, fall of 1919.He entered the Lutheran seminary in 1922 and was graduated in June 1975 shortly after which he was married to Margaretha Renken. Both were from LeMars Mars and members of Christ Lutheran church, rural LeMars Mars.After a 1-year pastorate in Newberg. Ore.. Rev. Ahrendt went to the Davenport-Egypt parish in Washington, servant he parish the 16 years. 1926 to 1942. Following this he spent 16 years at Emmanuel Lutheran church. Ritzville. Wash, after which he moved to St. Peter church. Spokane in 1958, serving there until his retirement in 1969

The Ahrendts have a daughter. Mrs. Orville (Evangeline) Moeller, Ritzville, Wash.: two sons. Eugene of Tacoma. and Armand of Spokane: eight grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Mrs. Carl Renken and Emma Ahrendt, sisters of the Rev. Mr. Ahrendt have recently returned from Spokane after attending the celebrations of the Ahrendts. The Ahrendt's golden wedding anniversary marks the third golden wedding anniversary in the Renken-Ahrendt families within an 8-month period.

Henry and Amanda (Ahrendt) Renken celebrated their golden anniversary on Nov. 27, 1974 and Carl and Marie (Ahrendt) Renken celebrated their 50th,year event on Feb. 11, 1975. The Rev. Fred and Margaretha (Renken) Ahrendt celebrated their anniversary on July 16.1975. The three couples are all doubly related — the Renkens are brothers and sisters and the Ahrendts are also sisters and brothers.

The Henry Renkens live at 114 Fourth St. NW. LeMars Mars, and the Carl Renkens lives at 327 Third Ave., NW in LeMars.
