James Jones, 84, Dies, Rites Held

Funeral services were held Dec. 1 at Assumption church here for James Peter Jones, 84, a retired mail carrier, following his death Nov. 29 at the Palo Alto Memorial hospital after a prolonged illness.

The Rt. Rev. Msgr. W. F. Mason officiated and burial was in the St. John's cemetery. The Martin Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were W. F. Eagan, Morris Malloy, Albert Kenyon, Gene Ford, James Mehan, and Everett Myers, all of Emmetsburg.

Mr. Jones was born in Alamakee county April 4, 1874, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jones. On June 26, 1928 he married in Emmetsburg, Nellie Keating, who preceded him in death Oct. 23 this year. They had no children.

Surviving Mr. Jones is a brother, Robert Emmet Jones, of Miami, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jones, a long time resident retired since 1918, was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. A large number of Knights attended the services in a body, with eleven members forming as an honor guard.
