Francis Maher, for many years a resident of Nevada township, this county, died at Estherville Saturday. The funeral was held Monday. Mr. Maher was born in the county of Kildare, Ireland, in 1823. Hence he was 86 years of age. He came to the United States when a young man and, with several other brothers, located in Emmet county about 53 years ago. Several years later he and his brother William and his sister Mary came to this county and for many years lived on a farm in Nevada township. The sister died six or seven years ago and william passed away September 30, 1906. For our five years ago William and Frank sold their farm and moved to Estherville, subsequently residing with their sister, Mrs. Donahue. The latter and one brother, Thomas, who lives on a farm in Emmet county, are the surviving members of the family. James died in Oregon seven weeks ago. Patrick passed away at Ft. Dodge several years ago.

Francis Maher was an upright, frugal, industrious man. He was quiet, attending strictly to his own affairs. Those who knew him intimately had a high regard for him. His death will occasion general regret among those who were for many years his neighbors and friends.
