John Joynt Dead.

Mr. John Joynt died at his home in this city about four o'clock Wednesday afternoon, February 14, 1912. He had been very will for about eight days and confined to his bed. He caught cold which later developed into pleurisy and then into pneumonia. While he was very sick most of this time his doctor held out the hope of his recovery to his family until a day or two before his death. For eighteen years Mr. Joynt had not been well and was unable during all of these years to do any hard work. He suffered from kidney trouble though that was not the immediate cause of his death. Funeral services were conducted by Father Conway at the Assumption church at 10:30 a.m. Friday and the interment made in St. John cemetery.

The deceased was born in the parish of Kilmacdough, Ireland in 1845. In March 1867 he came to America and located at Dubuque, Iowa. There he resided for three years. He came to Palo Alto County in 1870. On September 10, 1872 he was united in marriage to Miss Rose Ann McNally. They located on a farm in Emmetsburg township where they resided until nine years ago when they retired and moved to this city and remained until the time of his death. To this union five children were born. Twin boys, who died in infancy, were born about nineteen years ago. The other children are M. W. Joynt, Mrs. M. Hoben and Mrs. E. F. Murphy, who reside in this vicinity. Besides their own children Mr. and Mrs. Joynt raised two others, Mrs. Worley and Henry Joynt. They were given an excellent home and shared the care and comforts that were given to the family. This tells of the charitable natures of Mr. and Mrs. Joynt and is a decided point of credit to them.

For many years we knew the deceased well. He was a good, hearty, wholesouled, honest man. True to his correct principles, honest and straightforward in all his dealings. He was a good christian and devout catholic. He was fair minded, kindhearted and had very few, if any enemies. He was not aggressive or offensive and yet he had thrift and industry enough to provide well for his family. His life was well spent. He was a kind husband, father and neighbor. He believed in lending a helping hand when necessary and found real pleasure in giving assistance where it was needed. Such lives as his, while absolutely devoid of splendor or show are, after all, the ones that count for good in communities and are, we think, the most deserving. To the wife and children who survive him and are sorrowing over his loss we extend our sincere sympathy.
