Mrs. Alex Jennings Dead.

Expired at Her Home in this City Last Thursday.

Mrs. Alex Jennings died at her home in this city last Thursday after an illness of some time. She had been steadily failing for several months though she was able to be up and about the greater part of the time.

Two weeks ago she fell from a chair and broke one of her hips, which intensified her sufferings before she passed away. The funeral was held Saturday forenoon. There were a large number of old friends and neighbors in attendance. A requiem high mass was celebrated at Assumption church by Father Jungblute.

The pall bearers were Chris. Thomas H., James and Michael Conlon, Patrick Jennings, and Dennis Noonan.

Mary Lynch was born in the county of Cavan, Ireland, May 22, 1831. She came to the United States in 1842. She lived for some time in New York and later moved to Chicago. She was married at Morris, Illinois, September 8, 1861. Mr. and Mrs. Jennings came to this county in April, 1871, and settled on a farm in Great Oak township. In 1897 they moved to Emmetsburg, subsequently residing here. Mr. Jennings died in December, 1906. Two sons passed away during the past few years. One son, James P., of this city, is the only surviving member of the family. There is a step daughter, Miss Mary.

Mrs. Jennings was one of the best known women in our county, having resided in this immediate locality for nearly forty years. She was quiet and unpretentious, but she never intentionally neglected her duties to her home, her family or her community. To her the plaudits of the world had little charm, for she well knew that worthy deeds are in the end justly rewarded regardless of the particular manner in which they are performed. She was accorded the highest respect ofher neighbors and she was idolized by those who had the strongest claims on her affections. She lived to a ripe old age and she passed away conscious of the fact that she had tried as best she could to do God's holy will in her efforts in life. Her death will be sincerely mourned by all who knew her.
