Sad Death of Miss Torpey

The Tribune regrets very much to chronicle the death of Miss Henrietta M. Torpey which occurred at Santa Monica on Thursday, April 24. The remains were brought to Ayrshire for burial. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. J. Smith on Tuesday morning of last week and the interment was made in Calvary cemetery at that place.

Miss Torpey had been ailing for some time and the family realized that she could not recover. Her parents were buried at Ayrshire where the family had lived for some time. This is why she was brought there for burial. She taught in the primary grade in Ayrshire and was an excellent teacher.

She was a woman of refinement and splendid character. She was true to her friends and never lost an opportunity to do a kind act, or say the kindly thing to all with whom she dealt. The writer knew Miss Torpey well and we listed her as one of our best friends. She was sincere and proved herself in every way worthy of the warmest friendship. She was a dutiful daughter, a kind and loving sister and a generous helpful neighbor. She was a true Christian and devout Catholic. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. George Heald of Spencer and Miss Mary Torpey of Santa Monica, Cal., and one brother, James Torpey of Pocahontas. To them we extend sincere sympathy.
