Tuesday, May 15, 1956Last Rites for Dorothy Aylward At Graettinger
Funeral services for Dorothy Irene Aylward, 29, who died suddenly at her home at Graettinger last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock were held May 7 at Immaculate Conception Catholic church there. The Rev. E.S. Maynard, pastor officiated. He was assisted by the Rev. James Duhigg of Estherville. Burial was in St. Jacob's Cemetery. The Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Frank Moffitt, Dick Miller, Alan Hersleff, Fred Wolfe, John Carney and John Nolan.
Dorothy Irene Aylward, daughter of Margaret and Martin Aylward, was born March 25, 1917 at Graettinger. She attended the Graettinger school and graduated from high school with the class of 1939. She took training as a nurses aide from the Red Cross and in 1941 she and her mother went to California where Dorothy took vocational training in federal government agency work. She was employed in a responsible position with the North American Aviation, Inc. at Inglewood, Calif., until ill health forced her to discontinue this work. She then graduated from a trade school, specializing in power sewing machine work.
In 1944 she and her mother returned to Graettinger where she had since made her home. In recent years she was employed in Des Moines, Nevada, Iowa and Estherville.
Survivors besides her parents include three sisters: Mrs. Clarence Moffitt (Gladys) of Estherville; Mrs. Gerald Hines (Frances) of Nevada, Iowa and Mrs. Earl Harlowe (Veronica) of Loomis, Calif.
