Thomas Thin of Edinburg Dies; Kin of Gibsons
Miss Margey Gibson received cablegram from Edinburgh, Scotland, Wednesday morning telling of the death earlier that morning of her brother-in-law, Thomas Thin, following failing health of about a year. Funeral services were planned in Edinburgh for Saturday, the message said. Mr. Thin was in his late 60s.
Mr. Thin was the husband of Elsie Gibson, former Emmetsburg resident and a sister of Margey Gibson. He was a member of the family firm, the James Thin Bok Store and publishers to the University, a prominent Edinburgh business house which has been in the Thin family for several generations. Mr. Thin had visited in Emmetsburg several times with Mrs. Thin and had many friends here. He addressed the local Rotary club on one occasion and told many interesting facts of Scotch history and customs.
Serving in both World Wars I and II, Mr. Thin held the rank of major at the conclusion of World War II. During his absence he was with a Scottish regiment and was stationed at Dover and the Firth of Forth guarding a strategic bridge.
Besides Miss Gibson here, another sister-in-law is Miss Katherine Gibson, who teaches in the Mason City schools. Mr. Thin is survived by his widow. Local friends regret to learn of his death
