Fred O Banwart, 91
1915-2006

Funeral services were held for Fred O Banwart of West Bend, Iowa, Thursday June 8, 2006, 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, West Bend, with Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial was in West Bend Cemetery, West Bend. Harris Funeral Home of West Bend handled the arrangements.

Casket Bearers were March Banwart, Ed Banwart, David Zaugg, Brian Wolters, Jeff Conrad and Sony Farris.

Fred Banwart, the son of Dan and Celia Braker Banwart, was born February 8, 1915, in Morris, Minnesota. He moved with his family to Iowa in 1920, and attended the country school near West Bend. On November 14, 1938, he was united in marriage with Eva Barber. The couple lived and farmed in the West Bend area. Eva died in 1960, and on June 8, 1968, he married Iva Schwint in Sibley, Iowa. They also lived and farmed near West Bend until Fred’s retirement in 1976, when they moved to town.

Survivors include his wife Iva, West Bend; sons, Donald (Jane) of West Bend, Albert (Toni) of Waldorf, Maryland; daughter Delores (Henry) Spillar of Austin, Texas; brother, Ervin (Nettie) Banwart, West Bend; stepchildren: Sharon (Bob) Bridgeman of Pawnee City, Nebraska; Doris (Phil) Conrad of Omaha, Nebraska; Marian (Ray) Raumaker of Omaha, Nebraska; Clifford (Judy) Barber of Omaha, Nebraska; and Robert (Betty) of Algona, Iowa; nineteen grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Fred was a member of the United Methodist Church, West Bend, where he held many offices, the Palo Alto County Fair Board, a Farm Bureau Director, a Community Apartment Board member and a 4-H leader. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Eva; brothers, Lawrence and Walter, sisters Louisa Benninger, Ida Schmidt and Katie Ludwig; stepbrother, Levi Banwart and stepsister Della Bell.
