Catherine Eileen Murphy, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Joynt) Murphy, was born May 12, 1898, in Emmetsburg, Iowa and departed this life at Holy Family Hospital in New Richmond, Wisconsin on Tuesday, May 5, 1987 at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 23 days.
She received her education at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Emmetsburg.
On November 2, 1917 she was united in marriage to Leo James Clare in Graettinger, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Emmetsburg and Graettinger areas until 1926 when they moved to Estherville, Iowa.
She worked for Holy Family Hospital in Estherville for twenty-two years. Mr. Clare died in 1976.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville, Altar and Rosary Society, and the Legion of Mary.
Mrs. Clare is survived by one son, Robert Clare of Platteville, Wisconsin; two daughters, Mrs. Glen (Leona) Anderson of St. Paul, Minnesota, Mrs. Marvin (Mary) Wilberg of New Richmond, Wisconsin; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Rosamond Kannenberg of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Iadella Fleming of DeLand, Florida; and one sister-in-law, Lena Murphy of Council Bluffs, Iowa. She has been preceded in death by her husband, two sons, two daughters, and one grandchild, and her parents.
