MRS. M. ANDERSON DIES LAST FRIDAY
Funeral Services Held at Lutheran Church on Monday of This Week.

The oldest couple in Ruthven was separated by death last Friday when Mrs. Magnus Anderson passed away.

Kerstin Anderson was born in southern Skane, Sweden, April 27, 1862, and departed this life February 4, 1944, at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 7 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in her native land and was the oldest of four children. When 14 years of age, her mother passed away and she was left to care for the younger children. In her early twenties she went to the city of Malmo where she lived for some years. In 1893 she came to the United States and lived in Chicago and Peotone, Ill. While in Chicago she was an ardent worker for the large Immanuel Lutheran church of that city.

In the autumn of 1895 she came to Ruthven, Iowa and on December 11 of that year she was married to Magnus Anderson, and they began housekeeping in the house which has been their home continuously since that day.

Mrs. Anderson has been in ill health for many years.

Mrs. Anderson was a member and the outstanding worker of the Salem Lutheran congregation of Ruthven for over forty years of its existence. Her home was known for its hospitality and she had a keen mind that gave her many interests and a truly Christian spirit. Through all her illness her mind remained clear and she clung to the hand of her Master. She knew Jesus Christ as her Saviour, and her last words were: “Come quickly, Lord Jesus.”

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her husband, a daughter Amanda, of Ruthven and one sister in Sweden.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. Harry Erickson of Spencer assisted by Rev. S.B. Knudsen, at the Lutheran church on Monday afternoon. A ladies quartette sang “Safe in the Arms of Jesus,” and “Nearer My God to Thee.” Mrs. Howard Peterson of Peterson sang a solo in the Swedish language. The floral offerings were beautiful and there were many gifts to missions.

Interment was made in Crown Hill cemetery.
