They lived for a few years at Monticello and Sheldon. In the spring of 1882, they moved to Ruthven, which became their permanent home, with the exception of five winters spent at Ames. Mr. Batie, who was a veteran of the civil war, died in 1932.

Mrs. Batie is also survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her grandsons are Lyle Nolan of Ruthven, and Harrison, Jr., Paul and Robert Batie of Seattle, Washington, and her granddaughters are: Mrs. Harriet Kendall of Seattle and Mrs. Maxine Wallace of Tacoma, Washington. Mrs. Batie enjoyed travel and only two years ago she made the long trip by train to the state of Washington, unattended, and returned later by auto with her daughter, Mrs. Mortensen. Her mind remained clear until her death and she passed many hours reviewing in her mind the old hymns with which she had long been familiar.

Mrs. Batie was a member of the Methodist church of Ruthven, held a lifetime membership in the Woman’s Foreign Missionary society, and was the oldest member of the Emmetsburg chapter of the D.A.R.
