Mrs. Sarah Winn Buried Wednesday

Had Spent More Than Half-Century in Red Oak and Had Many Descendants in Armed Forces

Mrs. Sarah Ella Winn, 86, died Monday, July 23, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Gillespie, from complications incident to her age. She had been ill for some time.

Funeral services were held at the Perryman chapel Wednesday, July 25, at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. I. Fredmund of the Baptist church officiating. Music was by Mrs. Howard Brannock and Miss Betty Eiler, with Mrs. Dale Petty at the organ. The floral committee was Mrs. M.E. Jentoft and Mrs. Chas. Griffin. The pallbearers, grandsons of Mrs. Winn were, Llew Dilley, (?)eam Breese, Donald Breese, Charles Gillespie and Frank Gillespie, Jr.

Mrs. Winn was born in Cedar county, Ia., June 10, 1859, a daughter of Thomas and Mary Jane Crees. She was married there Aug. 15, 1879, to John Winn. They came to Red Oak in 1888 and the family lived here since that time. Mt. Winn died here May 3, 1938.

Mr. and Mrs. Winn raised a family of ten children, seven of whom survive. They are Mrs. I.L. Dilley, Villisca; Harry, Frank and Merle Winn and Mrs. Frank Gillespie, Red Oak; Walter, Bakersfield, Cal., and Pfc. Charles Winn, serving in the army in Germany. There are 29 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, Don Lee Stucks of York, Neb. Besides the one son in service, Mrs. Winn had 10 grandsons and three great-grandsons serving their country in the armed forces. Also, Thomas Winn, died July 28, 1900, a daughter, Mrs. Edward Breese, August 7, 1941, and another daughter, Mrs. Herbert Morton, in September, 1942.

Mrs. Winn was a member of the Baptist church in Red Oak and was active in the affairs of the church in the years she was able to attend.
