The Butler Weekly Times and the Bates County Record, February 6, 1919, Butler, Missouri, Page 2

Alva, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed VanFosson, died at the home of his parents, eight miles northeast of Adrian, Tuesday, February 25th, of Spanish influenza, says the Adrian Journal. Alva was about 17 years old and an industrious young man. When he was a small boy the family resided in Adrian, where Alva was well known. When the body was being laid to rest in Crescent Hill Cemetery, his brother, Harvey James (1913 - 1919), aged about 5 years, died of pneumonia, following an attack of influenza. Two deaths in one family in two days is a bitter trial for the stricken parents. Harvey was a good boy and will be greatly missed in the community. Alva and Harvey VanFosson were industrious boys. When they were small boys they were always at work and attended strictly to their own affairs.

* Mr. VanFosson was a former resident of the Page county area. His wife was the former Lillie Pearle Bennett.
