Lu Ellen Schaffer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence (Beulah Graves) Schaffer, was born Aug. 4, 1945, at Sibley, Iowa. Early in infancy she was baptized in the Methodist church. Six weeks ago she contracted pneumonia and although she seemed to recover she became seriously ill and was taken to the hospital at Sibley. However, in spite of much medical care and all those near and dear could do she continued to fail and passed away at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, March 12, 1950, attaining the age of 4 years, 7 months and 8 days. She leaves to mourn her departure her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schaffer, her sister, Becky, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lou (Margaret Dickman) Schaffer and Mr. and Mrs. Will (Nellie Jobes) Graves, all of Melvin, and many other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church in Melvin on Wednesday, March 15. Rev. S.E. Polovina officiated. Interment was made in Baker township cemetery.
