Clarence A. Schaffer, the son of Lewis and Margaret (Dickman) Schaffer, was born at Melvin, Iowa on November 23, 1907. He spent his youth and attended schools in the Melvin vicinity.

On August 12, 1936, Clarence and Beulah B. Graves were united in marriage at Spencer, Iowa. They spent their entire married life in the Melvin community

Clarence and Beulah passed away at the Hartley Community Hospital following a car accident. Clarence reached the age of 77 years, seven months and 27 days.

Clarence is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John (Rebecca) Schuett of Sheldon, Iowa; and three grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Edna) Leth of Prairie View Home at Sanborn and Mrs. Rex (Marjorie) Beckman of Melvin.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter LuEllen, and one brother.

Clarence and Beulah were very active in the United Methodist Church at Melvin, Iowa.

Joint funeral services were held July 23 at the United Methodist Church at Melvin with Rev. Rick Dee officiating.

Casket bearers were Tom Graves, Lloyd Raveling, Steve Wachtel, Terry Graves, John Klatt, Sr. and Joe Watterson.

The congregation sang the hymns, "Be Not Dismayed" and "Fairest Lord Jesus." Mary Benz was organist.

Interment was at Baker Township Cemetery, Melvin, Iowa, with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
