Major Beland, was born near Quebec, Canada, October, 1, 1837. Died July 29th, 1910, at Grand Crossing, Chicago, Ill., after a lingering illness. In 1842 he moved to Iroquoise county, Ill., where he was united in marriage with Miss Denise Lebean, October 1, 1862. They moved to Sanborn, Iowa, in the year 1881 where they resided for a number of years. From here they moved to Eagle Grove and from that place to Chicago, where his wife still resides.

Six children were born to this union. They were: Mrs. Emma Guenther, deceased, Mrs. Lucy Kelleher, and Archie Beland of Chicago, Mrs. Ellen Long of Sanborn and two children who died in infancy. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church at Grand Crossing; July 31 at 11:30 a.m., and interment made at Mt. Olivet cemetery. All extend sincere sympathy to Mrs. Long in her bereavement.
