Lois Amy Graves, daughter of Fred and Lillian (Jacobs) Graves, was born January 24, 1911, at Melvin, Iowa, and passed away at Lansdale, Iowa, on July 22, 1941, being 30 years of age.
She grew to womanhood at Melvin, attending the schools and graduating with the class of 1927. After graduation she taught rural school for two years.
In 1929 she began her studies at the State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, attending there for over two years. After leaving Cedar Falls, she taught school for seven years.
In September, 1937, she was taken seriously sick and was taken to Sunny Crest Sanitarium near Dubuque, Iowa, in the hope she might regain her health. On November 18, 1940, she was moved to the Sanitarium at Oakdale. Everything possible was done to aid her recovery, but without avail. God willed it otherwise.
Lois had a life-long connection with the Methodist Church, attending Sunday School, Queen Esthers, and Epworth League. In 1930, she united with the church.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her father and mother, three sisters and three brothers. They are Mrs. Ralph Smalley of Powell, Wyo.; Mrs. Ernest Buchan of Alpha, Minn.; Mrs. Robert Maust of Lansing, Ia.; Harold Graves of Hector, Minn.; and Roland and Wayne, of Melvin. She was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister.
During her long illness, Lois has maintained a cheerful spirit, bravely enduring the suffering and hoping against hope, that she might be spared to continue a life of useful service. When she realized that the end was near, she faced it with a firm and confident trust in Christ her Saviour.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, July 25, in the Methodist church at Melvin, conducted by the Rev. E. Stanworth.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Graves, Gerald Graves, John Graves, Albert Lutterman, Wm. Reicks and Clarence Schaffer. Burial was in the Baker Cemetery.*Lois Graves passed away from tuberculosis.
